Finally, Orion is high enough in the sky again that I don’t look like I’m peeping into the neighbour’s window from my driveway.

Autumn is a great season for taking pictures of the sky. The mosquitoes are gone, it’s nice and cool outside, but not oppressively cold yet. It’s the perfect time of year to be out with my telescope.

After so many grey and cloudy nights, I wanted to get my equipment set up and take a few shots at some instantly recognizable stars while there was a window of clarity between the clouds.

I’m armed with a few more toys this year and will be aiming at snapping at a few missed opportunities from last year.

For now, I decided to take a few images of Alnitak and its companion star as well as Betelgeuse (my favourite red supergiant) again. This time, I took many images at various exposures and stacked them to

remove the noise from the image.
